Katie Allgood | Founder & CEO

Katie is an attorney who partners with small businesses and startups to build, protect, and grow their brands with confidence. At Velaris, she works closely with business owners to translate legal complexity into clear, practical strategy, helping clients make smart decisions around intellectual property, business structure, and day-to-day operations.

"Helping businesses build, protect, and grow brands with confidence is one of the many ways we can make the world a better place. Small businesses and startups are a cricitical part of the economy, and we all benefit when these businesses thrive."

Katie's approach is grounded in understanding how businesses actually operate. She advises on broad IP strategy, advertising law, business formation, and contracts, while specializing in brand protection, trademark and copyright law. Katie works closely with clients to align legal protections with the client’s long-term vision. Whether you’re launching a new brand or scaling an existing business, Katie focuses on creating legal frameworks that are both protective and flexible enough to grow alongside your company.

Most recently, Katie served as Special Counsel in complex litigation at Bartko Pavia LLP, where she worked on high-stakes disputes involving intellectual property and antitrust. Her experience in this role spanned every phase of litigation, including serving on a trial team that secured a $222.7 million jury verdict in a federal trade secrets case in early 2025.

Katie’s litigation experience allows her to bring a proactive perspective when advising clients, helping businesses identify risks early, strengthen their protections, and avoid the kinds of disputes that can disrupt growing businesses.

She also brings in-house experience from the private sector, where she advised on commercial agreements, intellectual property compliance, branding, and legal operations. Working within a fast-paced, innovative corporate environment gave her a strong appreciation for the realities businesses face, and she carries that practical, solutions-oriented mindset into her work with Velaris clients.

Earlier in her professional career, Katie held leadership roles in municipal government, including Managing Director of Administration for a mid-size city. In that role, she advised executive leadership, managed budgets and operations, and worked through complex organizational and employment matters. This experience continues to shape her strategic, business-minded approach when advising clients and guiding her own business ventures.

Katie earned her J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, where she received an Intellectual Property Certificate, and holds a Master of Public Policy & Administration and a B.A. in Political Science and History from Baylor University.

She is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
